Seeking Gabriel

In the Christian tradition, the Archangel Gabriel plays a very significant role. Gabriel went to Zechariah at the Great Temple at the Autumn Equinox to announce the immaculate conception of John the Baptist. Gabriel also went to Mary at the Vernal Equinox to announce the immaculate conception of Jesus.

It is interesting to note that it seems that Gabriel can only appear at the Equinoxes - the two evenings of the year - when the days and nights are in perfect balance.

Gabriel met Zechariah at the Temple. Gabriel met Mary just prior to her visiting Elizabeth.

So who was Gabriel?
