The Dying Son and the Dead Winter Resurrection

The allegorical death of the sun occurs in the underworld - the Tropic of Capricorn at the Winter Solstice. Solstice literally means "sun (Sol) stands still (stice)". At the winter solstice, the sun is at its lowest (southern-most) point the sky, when the sun 'sits in state' for three days in hell, before beginning its transit back northward. The Tropic of Capricorn denotes the furthest point to the south that the sun transits in its yearly journey across the equator. At the equinoxes (Passovers, or evenings), the sun transits the sky above the Earth directly above the equator (Equinox means 'Equal' (Equi) 'Night' (Nox)). The sun enters the Tropic of Cancer at the Summer Solstice - its furthest point of travel in the northern sky. This time is known as the sun in all its glory, as opposed to the winter solstice, which is known as Dead Winter.

It is during the sun's three days in hell at the winter solstice, that the dying sun spontaneously resurrects as the newborn sun/son at its moment of death. This concept is even witnessed in the typisms of Father Time (the elder sun) and Baby New Year (the new sun).  This in turn dates back to ancient Egypt, where when a new pharaoh is anointed to the throne, he is referred to as "The Widow's Son" due to the fact that pharaohs were to be considered "self-begotten" and alternately as "only-begotten": the child of no mortal man - not even the previous pharaoh.

This does not mean that every pharaoh was a true messianic figure. Over time, as with all sacred entities, corruption reared its evil head, politics encroached upon spiritual topics, and supplanters conspired to manipulate their way into power. Nonetheless, it was at this time of the year when the elder father defeats the serpents and thus becomes the avenging son: the White Horseman who moves through the houses of the zodiac in retrograde - while the newborn sun-son ascends the throne and moves clockwise through the houses.
