Cosmic Pinball

The Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis states that a cosmic burst event took place above the earth in approximately 10,800BC, which would place it as occurring towards the end of the Age of Virgo

Saturn is a violent electrical environment.

Recently, planetary scientists announced a new type of storm swirling near Saturn’s North Pole. Robert West from Caltech and JPL says the origins of the storms and how they relate to other weather phenomena on Saturn “are still mysterious.”

The planet Saturn could be thought of as the captain of its own solar system, with a family of 82 moons. Saturn emits more energy than it receives: 2.3 times more, so it is being powered by another source. It is also probable that the interior of the planet has its own heat. There is good evidence that Saturn once existed as an independent body from the Sun. As such, it would have received more energy in the recent past, its power source usurped by the Sun. Saturn was a star that once usurped the sun but was pushed back? Possible the binary star of the sun? Saturn - Seth - husband of Nephthys, whom the sun Osiris 'slept with'? Did Of Sirius fall into the sun after 'impregnating' Nephthys (Venus?)?

Saturn exhibited many changes over the (almost) 40 years since the Voyager spacecraft flew by the giant gas planet and several of its largest moons. Saturn’s magnetosphere grew by more than a million kilometers, contracted, and then started expanding again. Saturn’s B ring “spokes” disappeared and then reappeared. The so-called “Dragon Storm” broke up, moved toward the poles, and then erupted again.

Every so often Saturn breaks out with a “great white spot” three times larger than Earth. Traditional models of Saturn cannot explain such a periodic outburst, but an intense lightning discharge deep in the atmosphere could cause vertical jets similar to the sprites in Earth’s upper atmosphere. Its electrical connection to the Solar System can explain the effects that Cassini discovered on and around Saturn.

The most likely explanation for the storms on Saturn is that they are equivalent to sunspots. As the Sun changes its behavior over the course of a 22 year cycle, the electrical output that connects it with its family of planets varies.

If Saturn’s Great White Spots, Dragon Storm, and ring spokes are driven by the same galactic Birkeland currents that drive the Sun, they should get stronger and closer to the equator as the sunspot cycle oscillates. It appears that is what happened over the past three decades.

Evidence suggests that Saturn was once of greater stature, but was dethroned from its position of prominence in the sky. It was not the tiny pinprick of light that can be seen on dark nights. Rather, it was worshipped as the central luminary, the all-powerful Sun. If that was the case, then its current position in the Solar System is far removed from what it was.

Without going into details that are elaborated elsewhere, that disturbance and rearrangement of planets means that Saturn is the way it is not because of how it was conventionally formed, but because it is closer to being a star than it is to being a planet. Indeed, as our ancestors tell us, it was a star.

NASA launched the Juno mission on August 5, 2011. Its primary science goals include analysis of Jupiter’s massive plasmasphere, along with electromagnetic influences throughout the Jovian system. Jupiter radiates more energy than it receives from the Sun, so astronomers think that some kind of internal dynamo, acting like a generator, “must be” creating the excess. However, there are processes occurring on Jupiter that are now coming to light.

Rotating charged bodies produce dipolar electromagnetic fields, whether they are gas giants or rocky planets. Why some planets like Earth and Mercury possess magnetic fields, while Venus and Mars do not demands further investigation. However, the basic physics of charged objects in motion generating electromagnetism is not debated.

Readers may have seen the latest report from the SAFIRE project, where distinct, concentric double layers were observed surrounding an electrode discharge within the chamber. What those layers represented was not discussed. Why the plasma isolated itself into discrete bands probably has something to do with why Jupiter’s atmosphere isolates itself into similar structures.

The sky gods Ares, Zeus, Apollo, Athena and Aphrodite seemed to take sides with either the Greeks or Trojans in that chaotic celestial drama. In the end Troy was laid waste and abandoned not by warlords but primarily by the forces of nature. More than once Troy was devastated by fire, earthquakes, storms and floods! The Trojan War was but one episode. Quoting Homer from the Iliad: “Zeus lashes the ground.” “A meteor that is discharged from Zeus.” “Zeus bought down high towers and will destroy others.” “Zeus destroyer of cities.” “Zeus sent a flash of lightning amongst the troops.” “Apollo of the deadly plague.” “Apollo – nine days the god’s arrows rained.” “Athena sacker of towns.” “Murderous Ares, butcher of men sacker of towns.”

Ra was often lauded as “Lord of the Circles” and as “he who entereth [or liveth] in the circle.” He was described as “the sender forth of light into his circle” and as the “Governor of [his] circle.”

What is the Circle that the hymns allude to? Egyptologists will immediately say that the Circle of which the hymns speak was the Egyptian Duat (or Tuat), a word that means “the Underworld.” That may be so, but Egyptologists since the time of Wallis Budge have conceded that the Duat was away beyond Earth and in the sky. The Duat as a ring surrounding a celestial object comes from the hieroglyphic determinative of the name “Duat” itself, depicted in the texts as a star surrounded by a band or circle. It is thus obvious that whatever Ra signified it was a celestial body that resided within a circle or band or ring.

Does the Sun send forth its rays into a circle? Does it reside in a ring?

Under certain conditions, a ring known as a parhelion (sundog), formed through atmospheric refraction, surrounds the Sun. But not only is this apparition too rare for Ra to have earned the title of “Governor of his circle” and/or “Lord of the Circles” it is also a phenomenon that is restricted to northern regions and hardly, if ever, seen at the latitude of Egypt.

Students of Egyptian mythology have long grappled with the exact meaning that lies hidden beneath this strange characteristic of Atum. The best that Wallis Budge could offer by way of an explanation was that Atum was the Sun after it had set. By this he meant to imply that the Egyptians worshipped the Sun even when it was absent from the sky. Sun worship at night, however, makes for an incongruous institution.
The Egyptians themselves attributed Ra to the god Atum and in fact, this deity is often referred to in Egyptian documents as Atum-Ra. This god bore a specific and strange characteristic – Atum was honored as a sun of night.

the god Ra is often surmounted with a red or golden disc that is not inappropriate if the Sun is truly being represented. In the liturgies dedicated to him, however, Ra is described as having shed a green, rather than a golden, light: “Thou hast come with thy splendours,” states a hymn to Ra, “and thou hast made heaven and earth bright with thy rays of pure emerald light.”

In another hymn we read: “O Ra…thou dost rise in the horizon of heaven and sheddest upon the world beams of emerald light.” Not only did this celestial object shed a green or emerald light, it was green. “Hail Green One” was how the Egyptians lauded Ra.

Consider further the motion of the celestial object called Ra. In a statement found in one of the Coffin Texts, the deity is addressed with these words: “You shall go up upon the great West side of the sky and go down upon the great East side of the earth.” Is not this contrary to what the present Sun does? Does the Sun today “go up” in the west? Does it “go down” in the east? Nor is this particular Coffin Text the only one in which the motion of Ra is in reverse to that of the present Sun. As is the orbit of Venus

More than that, when sailing in his boat, Ra is said to move down at dawn and “upstream” at night, which is again contrary to what we see the Sun doing in our sky at present.

One does not have to be an astronomer to realize that a celestial body described as being green, shedding a green light, shining at night, encircled in a ring or series of rings, “going up” in the west at night and “going down in the east” at dawn cannot have been the Sun. Mythologists, who usually gloss over these characteristics when they do not ignore them altogether, owe us an apology for having presented Ra as the Sun and Sun-god of ancient Egypt.

Other attributes of the Egyptian Ra also contradict identification with our present Sun, but the above should suffice to make the point. The question, of course, is: If not the Sun, what could the celestial object that the ancient Egyptians venerated as Ra have been?

During my first close encounter with Wal Thornhill, he electrified me with a picture of Zeus holding a thunderbolt.

The bolt was football shaped with stringy things spiraling out of it. Wal explained that it was the shape a plasmoid took in a vacuum. “Gee-golly-cornpone!” I thought. “The ancient Greeks carved statues of something that hasn’t been seen until modern man cranked up the current in a high-voltage lab.”

Now it’s happened again. At a seminar in Portland, OR the work of Tony Peratt, author of “The Plasma Universe,” (Springer-Verlag, 1992) was called to our attention. His work shows pictures of extremely powerful plasma discharges in his lab. They’re called “Peratt instabilities.” As the current is pumped up, the stringy things (NASA’s technical jargon for Birkeland filaments, which they re-discovered awhile back in the tail of Venus) grow saw-toothed edges and make a tumultuous noise. (That last is the ancient Egyptian scribe Ipuwer’s jargon: “Oh that the Earth would cease from noise and tumult be no more.”) Then the sawteeth develop into strings of triangles, ladder shapes, and stacks of donuts.

Several well-known mythologists in attendance jumped up shouting and pointing: “The dragon! The arrows! The ladder of heaven! The backbone of the sky!”

Ev Cochrane fired up his laptop and opened his collection of petroglyph files. There, carved into rock walls in unmistakable detail by ancient artists, were Peratt’s instabilities. For three or four or ten thousand years, no human eye has seen them. Not until Tony Peratt put cathode to anode, as shown in his publications, has there been a referent in nature for the images borne by the rocks throughout millennia.

The ancients saw all the instabilities. They heard them. The discharge lasts a billionth of a second in the lab. Plasma scientists, scaling up the spark to interplanetary dimensions, estimate it lasting for 8 to 16 years. Imagine attending a decade-long Jimi Hendrix concert with oversize amps. And when the discharge quenched and the “electrodes” went away, the descendants of the eyewitnesses wondered why great grandfather drew meaningless pictures and muttered about noise.

Battle of the Egyptian sky gods, Amon and Aten

Perhaps the strangest tale in Egyptian history is the usurpation of the Solar God Amon by the Solar God Aten. Both were, according to conventional history, solar deities. This religious reform was ruthlessly carried out by the Pharaoh Akhenaton (father of Tutankhamen and husband of Nefertiti), who not only moved to a newly constructed Egyptian capitol, Akhet-Aton (later renamed El-Amarna), but pressed upon the peoples of Egypt to adopt a monotheistic religion.

The old capitol, Thebes, that bore allegiance to Amon, was denounced. The solar deity, Aten was praised and adored by Akhenaten and his monotheistic followers. All memories of evil Amon were scrubbed from memorials and testimony. For some twenty years this curious new devotion existed and then just as quickly disappeared into the sands of Egypt. Suddenly, El-Amarna and Aten were abandoned and new dynasties arose, while Amon reigned in Egypt once more.

If Amen and Aten were both solar deities, then the passions that accompanied this change of cult—first from Amon to Aten and, after Akhenaten, back from Aten to Amon—must have their origins in something that we have yet to explain.

Herodotus, in his “Histories”, tells us that Amon was the planet Jupiter (or Zeus in Greek – king of the Gods). Maverick scientist, Immanuel Velikovsky believed that Aten was the planet Venus (the Greek Athena) revitalized by a devastating cyclical plasma display. However, the dual Sun anomaly does not explain the exceptional difference between the competing deities of Amon and Aten! Is there evidence of a glowing plasma discharge event rather than our normal Sun being the deity?

Carefully note the abundant sandstone etchings from that Akhenaten period. Notice the bright rays, or tendrils, with little feet, spearing out from a central dull core. They totally emulate looking down the barrel of a plasma gun! The plasma section too has rays with feet. Coincidence? Conjecture? Was it Venus (Aten, Athena) in glow mode demanding fearful attention from a population under stress?

This idea certainly matches the time scale of Velikovsky’s reappearance of the planet Venus into Earth’s magnetosphere. Study carefully the faithfully recorded El Amarna tablets depicting Akhenaten’s and Amenhotep 111’s earlier reign. It was an exceptional period of war, deadly seven year famine, drought, pestilence and plague throughout the Middle East. Cuneiform tablets describe the stresses of that period.  According to revisionist timelines, it was approximately 850 B.C.E., during the time of the Trojan wars.

So, here is a possible solution to what were in fact non-solar deities, they were planets displaying glow-mode plasma discharges; both Jupiter and Venus. Venus immersed mankind in chaos and misery so long ago that we can now only speculate about what happened. However, Akhenaten’s illustrations appear to emulate a plasma discharge, and that demands a better explanation than a people captivated by our everyday Sun!

The arms of Hungary’s national army, officially the Hungarian Defense Force, and earlier the principality of Transylvania, featured the mythical falcon Turul as a representation of the Hungarian nobility, usually depicted in black. In Magyar mythology, Turul sired the first dynasty of Hungarian monarchs by impregnating Emese during a dream; her son Álmos (c. 820 – c. 895) became the first Grand Prince of the Magyars. In a second intervention, Turul guided the people towards their eventual homeland, Hungary.

Turul’s own origins take one to the mythology of the axis mundi, or cosmic axis, for this avian progenitor of kings used to perch on the tree of life connecting sky, earth and underworld. In this role, Turul emerges as the Hungarian counterpart to the Egyptian ‘winged disc’ on its pedestal, identified as Horus, Phoenix on his tree or mound, the Zoroastrian griffin Saēna, ‘Raven’ on his totem pole, the Omaha thunderbird on his ‘luminous tree’, the bird Vuqub-Kaqix or ‘Seven-Macaw’ seated on a giant nance tree in Quiché Maya lore, and scores of others. If the blue blood of Magyar princes once coursed through the veins of a bird universally linked to the crest of a conspicuous cosmic pillar, no mythologist should forbear to enquire what sort of bird that could have been.

According to the thesis here defended, global elements in the traditional mythology of creation reflect the memory of extraordinary atmospheric, climatological and geological changes that reshaped the familiar environment of people during the early Holocene period. Enhanced electrical activity in the inner solar system would have transformed near-earth plasmas into a visible column that seemed to tie the ‘sky’ to the horizon like an umbilical cord. This column, along with concomitant figures such as the ‘thunderbird’ at its apex and a dragon around its trunk, would have been shaped by electromagnetic forces acting on dusty plasma in the upper atmosphere.

Cross-cultural traditions present the ‘morning star’, former or current, as a memorable prodigy, associated with an episode of darkness. A prominent theme in the classical tradition was the tragic myth of Phaethon, a ‘mock sun’ who set much of the world ablaze and, as Ovid had it, caused a momentary dimming of the sun: ‘The wretched father, sick with grief, hid his face; and, if we are to believe report, one whole day went without the sun’. While some sources used the name ‘Phaethon’ as an epithet of the sun, others interpreted it as the planet Venus.

Other cultures commemorated the arresting sight of the morning star as an awe-inspiring tailed creature, be it a dragon or a bird. The Aztec linked the morning star’s dreadful aspect with its first appearance, towards the end of the creation myth. Thus, Quetzalcoatl’s heart rose into the sky as a gorgeous quetzal-bird, the morning star, following eight days of darkness: ‘And as soon as his ashes had been consumed, they saw the heart of a quetzal rising upward. And so they knew he had gone to the sky, had entered the sky. The old people said he was changed into the star that appears at dawn. Therefore they say it came forth when Quetzalcoatl died, and they called him Lord of the Dawn. … it was after eight days that the morning star came out, which they said was Quetzalcoatl’. For the Aztec, this event marked the first appearance of the light of day in the present cosmic order.

Can such curious traditions about the morning star as a spectacular beast, putting the sun on the spot and sporting a tail, Venus is the false morning star, and hangs a tail - as do comets: was Venus originally a comet? shed any light on the superstitious belief that a solar eclipse is due to a dragon? A dragon could be a comet as well - one that might have blocked out the sun with plasma If a ‘morning star’ formerly appeared larger and more magnificent than it does today, its ability to have eclipsed the sun may well be spot on. Perhaps a comet circling around the sun within the orbit of the earth was responsible. Alternatively, the culprit may have been one of the planets, as some planets – notably Venus – are now known to carry a magnetotail that may well have been visible in the past.

Did Venus pass through a transitory stage in the guise of a spectacular heaven-spanning dragon? Perhaps it passed through a plasma field If it did, its repeated passages across the sun would certainly eclipse any transits seen in the past few thousand years, including that of today. Sic transit gloria.

There is one intriguing aspect to Mohenjo-Daro that sets it apart from most ancient ruins. It is the one anomaly among several at the site that has caused some researchers to suggest that there might have been forces unleashed in the past that are comparable to modern weapons. Walls, pottery and other items found in the city have been turned into a kind of ceramic glass, indicating that they were exposed to thermal energy equivalent to 1500 Celsius. Evidence of ionizing radiation has also been found in some burial sites.

The oldest myths of the Hindu religion, itself one of the oldest religions in the world, speak of gods flying in vehicles composed of dazzling light and intricately carved platforms called vimanas, that waged war with one another using energy beams of incredible power. In the Hindu religious text known as the Mahabharata, there is a description of one such vehicle:

“Gurkha flying in his swift and powerful Vimana hurled against the three cities of the Vrishis and Andhakas a single projectile charged with all the power of the Universe. An incandescent column of smoke and fire, as brilliant as ten thousands suns, rose in all its splendor. It was the unknown weapon, the Iron Thunderbolt, a gigantic messenger of death which reduced to ashes the entire race of the Vrishnis and Andhakas.”
There are many speculations about what the vimanas were or what the Iron Thunderbolt might have been. Some of the more imaginative examples see UFO’s and alien spacecraft waging war against the backdrop of primitive humanity, leaving behind a mythological image of gods and demons in conflict. Since the old races were unable to comprehend the idea of technologies on such a vast scale, the only alternative was to invest the phenomena that they observed with divine power.

Several past Pictures of the Day dealt with gigantic geological formations all over the world and with craters exceeding 100 kilometers in diameter. In some cases, the craters are associated with glass spherules or large chunks of pure silica lying in broken pieces all over the desert floor. The fact that the Egyptians considered the “desert glass” from the Great Sand Sea to be sacred and used it to adorn their religious icons is significant because the vitrified walls of Mohenjo-Daro are also said to originate in the wars of the gods, or theomachia.

What could account for fields of broken glass shards like those in Egypt, large sheets of glass like “Darwin glass” from Australia, and the fused pottery and melted ramparts of Mohenjo-Daro? In all these cases, it was probably gigantic plasma discharges in the form of lightning bolts and electric arcs that melted the ruins and fused the soils into glass. The timeframe is probably impossible to determine with any accuracy at this late date, but it seems evident that humanity had reached a high level of sophistication before being exposed to these cataclysmic events.

In Discourse#30, we consider the popular Egyptian story, “The Destruction of Mankind,” recounting how a rebellion occurred and the primeval sun god Ra sent the goddess Sekhmet to destroy humanity. Though nothing in the tale makes sense to the modern mind, the cross-cultural connection to the “Comet Venus” throws considerable light on the story. Ancient memories of Venus as an agent of global catastrophe are too consistent to be ignored.
